What Causes Discomfort While Swallowing?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Sep 2014
Question: The last two days I have had discomfort swallowing or belching. I recently had a crown placed and was wandering if it was related. I have had GERD for a number of years, but it has been well controlled fo years with Prilosec. This does not feel like heart burn

Brief Answer:
Further medical data needed....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I'd like to have a few more info regarding your actual complaints:
- do you have fever ?
- how long does the discomfort swallowing or belching appeared?
- are you also feeling fatigue?sneezing? coughing? diarrhea?
- when was your last time of getting medically examine?

If you have flu-like symptoms, then, what you are experiencing is due to possible viral infection. It has nothing to do with placed crown.

Take good care of your throat: rinse with salt water; Take 1 teaspoon of honey each morning. Acetaminophen will reduce inflammation and possible mouth infection. Probiotics are also advise to get started

Wish speedy recovery!

I have had this only a couple of days. No fever or change in bowel habits. Definitely some fatigue. Recently had an appendectomy, but haven't had a PE for a year.

Brief Answer:
Common viral infection...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

From what you are describing, it seems to be related to common viral infection (early stages). Re-activation of GERD is also possible in the presence of viral infection together with gastritis.

Take good oral hygiene as mentioned earlier. Increase fluids intake. Take antacids. If no improvement, should get further evaluated by your doctor to rule out any bacterial infection that might need antibiotics and to start PPIs for GERD or gastritis.

Wish fast recovery!
