Question: hi. i have had problems losing weight since having my baby two years ago... i got checked for thyroid .. came back perfect.. got checked for hormonal imbalance and came back perfect.. blood preasure is perfect. cholesterol is 232.. but is the good hdl.. now everytime i try to lose weight i get eating healthy, drink water, and exercise..the problem is the more i exercise the more my water retention rises. and i actually wake up swollen from exercise.. during my period my weight goes up like 10 pounds and i feel horrible.. i keep losing and gaining the same ten pounds during the month.. i am very sensitive to sodium. if i eat one shrimp cocktail i will blow up like 5 pounds the next day.. i always almost wake up with swollen eyes.. also when i try to eat high fiber foods they actually make me get constipated... i've noticed that i feel better eating white tst since my stomach doesnt get bloated.. i dont understant . it almost seems like my body loses weight easier when i dont exercise and dont eat fiber...and if i never eat salt again, what could be causing these weird symptoms and how then can i begin to lose weight..

Brief Answer:
RFTs, lipid profile & bp monotoring needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

After going through your history, it is evident that your cholesterol levels are high at 232 mg/dl.
Ideally the total cholesterol should be below 200 mg/dl.
Water retention to this extent is not normal.
Salt restriction is needed.
Besides salt retention, you need to get renal function tests- RFTs(kidney function tests) done.
Swelling around the yes is very much suggestive of renal dysfunction.
Swelling around the ankles is suggestive of cardiac abnormality.
Salt retention after exercising may not be truly associated.
Consumption of high sugar, packed and canned foods also leads to water retention.

So, consult your physician for renal function tests, get your blood pressure checked again and get a lipid profile done.
You need to reduce consumption of fatty foods (whether white or red fat), eat food rich in proteins and low in fats and carbohydrates.
Avoif taking water during meals.
Take water atleast half an hour before meals.

Do post the test reports for further assistance.

Thanks
