Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: Hello, I have had trouble lately emptying my bladder completely. I usually get up in the night to go to the bathroom, but last night I didn't wake up. This morning I can only partially urinate and am having discomfort. Is there anything I can do? I am a 60 year old female. YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
This could be due to Post Menopausal Urethral Stenosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have difficulty in emptying bladder completely.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Since how long you are facing this problem ?
2) Do you have other urinary symptoms like frequency .burning etc?

Incomplete emptying of the bladder at this age is mostly due to narrowing of urethral passage (Urethra) which occurs as a part of process of atrophy of genital organs after menopause.

You need to consult qualified Urologist for endoscopic examination of bladder and get urethral calibration done to dilate (widen) the urethra.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thank you for your help ~ I will look into seeing a urologist. I need to know if there is anything I can do at the moment, will the discomfort increase or will I be able to urinate? Is there any danger in not being able to empty my bladder?
Yes, I have been having this problem for a few months, but not to the point where I am unable to urinate until this morning. I have had no burning or frequency. Only waking up in the night to go to the bathroom, which I have never done before.

Brief Answer:
Take Cholenergic drug like Urivoid twice daily till you consult Urologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.If you have too much discomfort take Cholenergic drug like Urivoid twice daily .

Ensure to drink more water .

You can move around or hot fomentation over lower abdomen .This may help to initiate micturition.

If there is no relief even after these measures you may need to get catheterized .

Thanks and Regards.
