default
Posted on Mon, 30 May 2016
Question: Sometimes feel like nasal openings are narrowing and can't get enough air during night. Often feels slight congestion, especially after being exposed to air conditioned rooms. Often breathes through mouth and slight noisy breaths and sometimes snoring if through nose. Suffers migraine attacks at times: severe headache that will not go for hours. Generally tired on fair amount of exhaustion but not weak. Feels the need to breath through mouth.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX
Welcome to HCM
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
I would like to know few more details, like
Do you have cold or runny nose.?
Do you have sinus problem?
Your symptoms are suggestive of nasal block, usually be due to hypertrophy of inferior turbinates. Inferior turbinates are raised areas of flesh on both side of lateral nasal walls. This will give a stuffy feeling in nose and need for constant clearing can be there.

I would have done thorough examination of your nose using rhinoscope, to rule out DNS, terbinate terbinate hypertrophy, nasal polyps.

Presently I would suggest you to follow this measures
Warm salt water gargaling 3 to 4 times a day,
steam inhalation with few drops of eucalyptus oil in it 3 to 4 times a day,
Nasal decongest like octrivin 2 drops in each nostril for 4 to 5 days.
Avoid air-conditioning rooms as much as possible.Avoiding cold food items for few days.

Anti inflammatory and analgesic agent like Ibuprofen will be helpful in reducing congestion and also addressing your headache.

Kindly follow these measures for week, you should be good.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.

This has been there since years, and not severe at all. This would be the first time I'm querying as this has not been much of a botheration, or rather as we are used to it now. My question is should I consult, whether it is serious?

Can you please suggest what else to avoid, especially during sleep..like position or use of pillows.

Due to work nature cannot avoid air conditioned rooms. No Sinus infections, only Migraine attacks. No cold, runny nose unless during a cold infection during weather change.

Thanks a lot

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
As suggested earlier, to rule out certain conditions you can visit ENT specialist. I don't think it is anything serious.
Kindly follow the above suggested measures and it is better sleep in lateral position with slightly elevated head. I would recommend you to do steam inhalation, salt water gargaling and drink warm water before you go to bed.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.
