What Causes Diarrhea, Weight Loss And Green Stool In Infant?
Question: Hi Doctor.
Please can you help?
My baby has 3 months age.
He is decreasing his weight or he does not gain well weight. He borns with 3.450 kg and until now 3 months and 1 week he only have 5.500 kg.
When he has 2 months he was deagnosed Sepsis and anemie. We stay in the hospital 5 days they give antibiotics and He receive blood. Hemoglobin increase 7.6 to 13.4
Now he started diarreia with poop green colour.
I made the poop culture and the results:
Mucus present
RBC 2-4
Pus cells 15 - 20
Macrophages 1 -3
Ocult blood positive.
What does it mean.?

my baby is very alergian he don't use usual soaps or creams.

Hi....first be reassured that your baby's growth is normal. Normally babies lose 10% of birth weight and regain it in the first 10-12 days. If we calculate like this, your baby has gained almost 26-27 grams per day till now. This is an excellent weight gain.
I do not think this is in anyway related to the sepsis and anemia he had previously.
It's normal for babies of this age group to pass green colored motion like this. Unless the baby is very lethargic or dull or not having adequate urine output or green colored vomiting or blood in the motion you need not worry.
The occult blood in stool test report could be due to antibiotic induced or if you had started on cow's milk apart from mother feeds - it could be a cow's milk protein intolerance. I DON'T SUGGEST ANTIBIOTICS BASED ON THIS REPORT AGAIN.
MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THE ACTIVITY OF THE BABY. AN ACTIVE BABY IS A WELL BABY.
