Posted on Mon, 19 Sep 2016
Question: Hi Dr Rynne
I am a 48yr old female. 210lbs. Last year I had a hysterectomy due to some cysts and abnormal bleeding in my ovaries. I've also suffered from very low iron but has gotten better from iron pills. Over the past 5-6 months, I have been having runny stools, diarrhea, and a couple of times have had bloody looking tissue in the toilet after having a bowel movement. Over the past few months, I have been bloated and having leakage problems. When I pass gas, then I realize after I have also leaked diarrhea. it seems to be only getting worse. Please help me. This is so embarrassing and sudden.

Brief Answer:
Need to evaluate the bowel properly

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

There seems to be a problem in your large bowel, specifically the rectum. There may be a local problem like hemorrhoids or fissure which is interfering with normal control. Other potential problems are polyp, inflammatory bowel disease, or tumor. There may be a component of irritable bowel as well.

So I recommend a rectal exam in clinic and possibly a colonoscopy, to help arrive at the proper diagnosis. Then appropriate treatment can be initiated.

Hope this helps.
