Question: I am 34 years old. I am 3 weeks late for my period. I feel sick to my stomach more so when my stomach is completely stretched straight such as when I lay on my stomach or stand straight and I have been suffering from pretty bad fatigue. I am NOT pregnant. I have taken several home pregnancy tests AND had a blood test at the doctors of which all were negative. The nausea is a new symptoms since I had been to the doctor. I cannot find a reason for my symptoms can you please help.

Brief Answer:
Hormonal imbalance and stress should be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for posting your query.

If you have never been late with your period and have conclusively ruled out pregnancy, the other things that may be suspected are
-stress, which can affect the cycles badly
-infections, general or pelvic including urinary conditions, which can either advance or delay the cycles by affecting the pituitary-ovarian axis that regulates the periods.
-certain medications
-hormonal imbalances, caused due to sudden weight disturbances, ovarian cysts etc.

In your case, I would ask for a complete general examination including a pelvic exam, trans-vaginal sonogram, urinalysis and blood counts. I would also ask for the serum beta-hCG titres to be estimated again to conclusively exclude pregnancy. I would like to rule out other causes for the nausea including gastric distress.

If pregnancy is excluded, a complete hormonal profile should also be done before planning further management. Please see a physician along with a gynecologist for proper evaluation of your situation.

Hope your query has been clarified. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
