What Causes Cramping And Nausea After Mirena Removal?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Sep 2014
Question: Hi,
I had mirena removed on XXXXXXX 26th so that we could try for another baby. Have had no periods since removal until August 8th and it lasted a couple of days and light. It seems like since removal of Mirena and more so after light period on aug 8th I have cramping daily and nausea mainly in the morning and evening. Pregnancy test was negative this morning and last weekend negative. Is it too soon to tell? Debating on getting blood test done but also concerned about possibly having cyst...perhaps I just need to give it more time.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Serum beta hCG blood test

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. Initially after removal of mirena periods are light as you have described.

2. This bleeding seems to be normal periods and not pregnancy.

3. There is no need to wait and watch.

4. If you still think it could be pregnancy please get serum beta hCG blood test done to confirm pregnancy.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

What do you think is the cause of the daily cramping? They become sharp pains for instance when coughing or getting out of my car too fast?
Thank You

Brief Answer:
cramping

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Since the mirena has been removed recently the uterus is trying to adjust.

The endometrium which goes out during menses increases as the exposed endometrial tissue surface is more.

If cramping is too much rule out endometriosis of ovaries by getting transvaginal ultrasound scan.
