Posted on Mon, 21 Jul 2014
Question: I have been having a continuous headache through the day along with a dry mouth and feeling thirsty for the past 2 days. I am on the following medication routine: Homochek, Nebicard 5 mg (in the mornings) and Valent 80 mg, Rozavel F 10 and Udiliv 150 (alternate days). These medications were prescribed for Dilated Cardiomayopathy (asymptomatic) which I was diagnosed with a few years back.

Brief Answer:
?? Uncontrolled hypertension, BP needs evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help.

Based on your history and symptoms, the presentation you are experiencing could be solely due to your hypertension, which will require re-evaluation. When the blood pressure is high and uncontrolled, such symptoms can present. So I would request you to report to your doctor and request for an ambulatory device to monitor your 24 hour blood pressure and confirm whether or not your blood pressure in well controlled.

A few other conditions that can have a similar presentation are:
-Diabetes
-Migraine headaches
-Tension headaches
-Allergic reactions
-Hypocalcemia
-Anemia
-Poisoning
and a few others. Although I strongly suspect uncontrolled blood pressure to be the cause in your specific case, but this will have to be confirmed. Please report to your doctor at the earliest sir, as uncontrolled blood pressure can have some undesired long term side effects.

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative sir. I hope and pray everything is fine and corrected at the earliest so you can continue to live a symptom-free life. Please also do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always available to help.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
140/90 mm Hg not high enough to cause this

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again Mr. XXXXXXX

This blood pressure reading seems to be okay, although mildly on the higher sir. It is still not high enough to cause the symptoms you are experiencing, which is why I recommended an ambulatory device which will monitor your blood pressure for a duration of 24 hours, to confirm/rule out blood pressure to be the cause.

Recording of blood pressure also depends on what time of the day you record it, before or after meals, during the stressful part of the day, and so on. If at all we rule out blood pressure to be the cause, we will have to consider other conditions that I have listed above. Please go about the ambulatory device monitoring and also a general health check up including complete blood count, glycaemic profile, etc.

Please keep me informed about the reports and developments sir. In the meantime, speak to your doctor about better control of hypertension.

Hope you find my response helpful sir. Please keep me updated, and I shall provide you with as much information as is required sir.

Best wishes.
