Question: Dear Doctor, I had a full colonoscopy in XXXXXXX 2015 and everything was ok. I have been having constipation and have noticed in the past days brown mucus when I wipe. I am so scared. what can this be? I have internal and external hemorrhoids and sometimes I bleed.

Brief Answer:
This could be due to streaks of blood mixed with mucus

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

I understand your concerns. However, as colonoscopy was OK in 2015, this is unlikely to be anything sinister.

As there are external and internal hemorrhoids, it can be due to unrecognized bleeding inside (minor quantity), which gets mixed with mucus to give brown color.
Constipation adds to this.

Overall, I feel that there is nothing to worry. You can surely consult a surgeon to have peace of mind.
Please let me know if you want any more clarifications.

Dear Doctor,

Should I take anything to soften the stools? Sometimes I also see the mucus mixed with the hard feces. It is not cancer, is it? I am so nervous, but did the full colonoscopy in XXXXXXX 2015.

thanks again

Brief Answer:
laxatives to soften stools

Detailed Answer:
You can take fiber preparations to soften stools or consult your doc regarding any prescription laxatives.

Unlikely to be cancer as cancer can't form in less than 1 year (considering colonoscopy in XXXXXXX was normal).

So, considering that cancer can t form in less than one yar, when should I repeat the colonoscopy? The doctor said in five years as I has during my pregnancy removed a benign polypm thank you very much
