What Causes Consistent Weight Gain After An Ectopic Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Jun 2015
Question: I had an ectopic pregnancy in October of last year...I was 5'7 & 108 lbs. During & after the pregnancy I gained about 30 lbs...and since then I've continued to gain in small increments of 2-3 lbs a month. I work 40 hours a week (consistently active), I ride a bike about 15-20 miles per weekend, & I've tried doing classes at a gym with my friends and husband but Im not losing any weight, just maintaining. I feel like I should be doing more, but I have absolutely no drive or energy after a 10 hour day of work. my college just had her 3rd child and was prescribed phentermine for energy and diet...she has done great. Wondering if this is something I should consider? I just can't bring myself to go into my general physicans office to be seen like this. Do you think that I could benifit from this particular diet pill, provided that I follow a strict exercise regime and healthy diet?

I hope you can help me figure this out. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Exclude contraindications before you start Phentermine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query under HCM forum.
Weight gain is something that has cosmetic hazard as an immediate effect along with health hazards in long run. & I appreciate your concern & wish to control it earliest. But please understand that, to get rid of an excessive weight is a prolonged , tedious & patience testing process & real wish to reduce & self determination for continuous efforts are needed for positive results.
* About the drug. Phentermine--you have referred , is an appetite suppressant & not a diet pill.. It reduces appetite & is used along with exercises & prescribed diet to reduce weight.
* Contraindications -You can take it Only after your family physician's advise, for the drug is Contraindicated in certain conditions like allergy ( to aspirin or yellow food dye)/ thyroid, kidney, heart problems/ diabetes/ high blood pressure/ pregnancy & lactation.
So if at all you are planning to start Phenentermine, you should consult your family physician, get investigated to exclude the contraindications for the drug & the proceed with the drug/ diet/ exercise regime.
* Another thing about such drugs is there can be rebound weight gain once the drug is stopped.
So I feel a scientific way to reduce is to exclude certain disorders like hormonal imbalance ( PCOD)/ ovarian problems / thyroid problem, diabetes as a cause of obesity If any one of them is pointed out by investigations, treatment of the condition would help reduction of weight.
. In case every thing is normal- a strict healthy dietary regime advised by a dietitian/ exercise daily/ have 86 hours of sound sleep & self determination along with positive thought would be the best way to reduce.
I hope you find the answer informative & useful. Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
