default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jul 2015
Question: For the last two years, I'vehad consistent slightly elevated wbcs- nothing higher than 18. Elevations in seg neutraphils and lymph abs. Never elevations in eos. I had a CBC done on July1 with an elevated wBC of 13.88. Four days later I was at my hematologist and my wbc is 9.77 but eos abs of .5. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
can you please send me complete blood reports

Detailed Answer:
hi
I did review your concern mam.
Elevated CBC can be due to multiple reasons. It can be due to infections, chronic inflammation, or rarely a bone marrow process. To know more about your condition, I would like to know few details as following-
1) Have you ever experienced chronic fever, night sweats, weight loss, widespread joint pain?
2) Have you ever noticed any skin rash, chest pain , or abdominal pain?
3)Can you please send me your latest abnormal and normal blood reports? If you cannot upload your report here, please upload to YYYY@YYYY with Sub: ATTN "Dr. Parth XXXXXXX Desai".

I shall be waiting for your reply with complete report details so that I can help you better.
I hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns.
Wishing you all the best mam.
Sincerely,
Dr. Parth XXXXXXX Desai.

There have been occasions where my temperature hovers above the norm, but it is fairly low grade like around 99.8-100 degrees. This does not happen on a frequent basis. I have had night sweats and often wake up with the bed damp. Weight loss right now is intentional for me, as I am a type II Diabetic and am trying to lose weight. About ten years ago I had an injury to my L shoulder/joint. I have had some inexplicable mid level to upper back pain that wraps around my chest at times which makes it hard to breath. No rash noticed. I don't suffer from chronic abdominal pain.

Thank you for your time and help.

Brief Answer:
Hi There seems to be nothing much to worry about right now.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I did review your reports and your reply query.
Thank you for providing me with required details.

With respect to your blood reports, they seem to be fine. Your hemoglobin and platelets are normal and your wbc count is just mildly elevated in one of the reports. This can be mostly due to some acute bacterial or viral infection and might have resolved.
I would not worry much right now. Just to be sure you can get your peripheral blood film examined by a hematopathologist, but that is just to be absolutely sure. and i am confident that mostly it will be normal.

In case your night sweats and fever episodes persist and you have continuous chest and back tightness/pain, I would recommend
-chest x-ray, x-ray spine to rule out joint problems and chest infections.
- ESR, CRP and serum ANA test for inflammatory and autoimmune problems.

However, right now these tests are probably not required and consider them only if your problems persist.

I hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns.
wish you all the best mam.
Sincerely,
Dr Parth Desai.
