What Causes Chronic Diarrhea While On Sulindac?

default
Posted on Sat, 10 Jun 2017
Question: I am taking Sulindac 150 mg BID for arthritis. I began seeing a new doctor recently. He asked me to try Voltaren Gel in addition to the Sulindac. Will this give me too much NSAID in my system? I began a consult this week with a GI doc for chronic diarrhea which began 4 months ago. I get a colonoscopy next week. My labs for kidney function are at the borderline.

Brief Answer:
Decrease sulindac , add acetaminophen and voltaren gel

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, If you have border line kidney function, you may need to avoid systemic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), you can instead use acetaminophen (Tylenol), which is an analgesic, not an NSAID.

also, Injections of hyaluronic acid compounds, which are designed to supplement a substance that gives joint fluid its viscosity, for example, may provide relief in affected joints (usually knees) without involving the kidneys. These products include Hyalgan, Orthovisc, Supartz and Synvisc.

There are also topical NSAIDs products for arthritis as diclofenac (Voltaren Gel). Only a very small amount of the drug gets into the bloodstream, so it is safe for your kidneys. However, topicals may not work well for hip pain, because the joint is too deep for the medication to penetrate. but it can provide better results with super facial joints such as knee joint.
so , you can decrease dose sulindac , add acetaminophen and voltaren gel to relieve your symptoms..I hope I answered your question. if you don't have any other clarifications then please close the discussion .
