What Causes Chills, Burning Sensation On Skin And Nausea While Living In A Spider Infested House?

Question: Hello, We have had big spiders come into the house looking for water, as there hasn't been much rain this summer. We had our exterminator come in yesterday to spray. He thought they were wolf spiders and said to give them a week to die. I found a few near me when I woke up in our recliner and there was a dead one under the recliner. Last night, overnight, and when I got up, I had some decidedly weird symptoms: 1) Feeling like I absolutely could not get warm. When I would get under the covers, I felt like my skin was burning. When I would put my arms out I would be freezing again. I could not stop shaking. When I could fall asleep, I continued to wake up a lot. I had a VERY rough night. When I got up, I was nauseated and my eyelids were swollen. I found a very small blister on my foot just a bit ago, but don't know whether or not it's a spider bite. Wondered if it might be one that could have been left when a spider bit, but didn't get much venom in. I just found one of the dead spiders about 1/2 hour ago and kept it as a sample, just in case. I'm hoping that the spider was not misidentified and that it's not a from a more dangerous species. The other thought I had was that perhaps I was having a reaction to the spray that the exterminator applied. There was quite a bit of it and I am not usually here right after it has been sprayed. I am far from a hypochondriac, but the thing I was feeling were so odd. I'd love to have some medical feedback on this. Thank you so much.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms most probably related to spray applied.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

In my opinion, it wasn't a wolf spider bite because the number one of symptoms is pain at the bite area that can't be unnoticed.

Other symptoms include redness and swelling around the bite area and swelling of lymphatic glands.

Most probably symptoms you describe are caused by spray applied, but chemical identification of the spray and related symptoms that may cause to humans should be evaluated.

Since you got a dead spider you can check for spider pictures in internet to identify it.

If in doubt about dangerous species, you should seek for medical evaluation.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Take care.

Thank you so much. Right after writing my question, I realized that I was having some muscle cramps in my right arm and leg. I believe that you are 100% correct in your diagnosis and that it is a reaction to the spray. I'm not having the extreme chills/shakes any more, not are my eyelids swollen. I do have mild muscle cramps in my right side, and I'm sort of tired and weak. (The tiredness could be from the rough night I had last night.) I am feeling better in general, though. My follow up question would be: At this point, is it your opinion that I need to call Poison Control or go to an ER? Thank you so much for your time!

Brief Answer:
No need to rush to Emergency.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Since you already feel better, there is no need to rush to ER.

House ventilation, rest, plenty of fluids should help improve your symptoms further.

If you notice new symptoms, or swelling worsen, you need to have medical evaluation.

Hope I helped you. Best regards.
