What Causes Chest Congestion And Blood In Sputum?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Sep 2015
Question: I've had a cold for the last few weeks, but this week had lots of chest congestion. Noticed I have some blood in the mucous. Light, pinkish in color, am having pain in my right shoulder, stabbing in nature that happens especially at night. Not really short of breath but I do have a low grade temperature for last two nights (runs around 100 degrees)
I don't have medical insurance due to no job and will be getting one starting Aug. 17th but no benefits for 90 days. My heart rate seems normal, not irregular at all.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of pneumonia is more in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Lower respiratory tract infection is commonly seen after uncontrolled cold (upper respiratory tract infection).
Your symptoms like fever, chest congestion, cough, hemoptysis (blood in sputum), chest pain, shoulder pain, feeling of shortness of breath etc are suggestive of lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI - pneumonia) more.
So better to get done chest x ray to rule out pneumonia.
You need higher Antibiotics, antihistamines and anti inflammatory drugs.
So don't wait at home, first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
