What Causes Bright Red Vaginal Bleeding Post Intercourse?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Oct 2015
Question: I was diagnosed with PCOS 5 years ago. I have not taken any form of treatment. More likely than not the only way my period would start would be after sex. Now 2 weeks after my last period (that started the day after sex) I had sex and now im bleeding a bright red color and its flow is like a regular period. Im on my second day of this "spotting" and its flow is consistent. My stomach is cramping and burning and im extremely fatigued. I also found blood in my stool on the second day of this "spotting". What could be happening? I know this is not normal for my body and as stated above the color of the blood is like a freshly cut finger, I feel a little out of it and not myself.

Brief Answer:
Can be a hormonal imbalance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The bright red color bleeding that you are having can be due to a hormonal imbalance or a local in jury to the genitalia while having sex. The blood in the stool is not related to this bleeding and can be due to hemorrhoids or infection.
In case the bleeding is heavy or is persistent then it is best to consult your gynecologist for a local examination and a hormonal treatment to regularize your periods.

Yes after being diagnosed with PCOS 5 years ago I was told at that time it was a hormonal imbalance. More specifically what is the likelihood this could be a new growth, burst cyst, ectopic pregnancy or even endometrial cancer. The bleeding started 24hours after sex, if it were rough would it have taken place sooner? I also have deep pain while having sex so I'm not sure if there is a growth that shouldn't be there or not.

Brief Answer:
Ectopic pregnancy not likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Ectopic pregnancy is not likely as you had your normal periods just 2 weeks ago. A new growth or burst cyst are the possibilities but these can be ruled out only after proper investigations.
If the bleeding started 24 hours after the sex then it is not likely to be due to rough sex session or a local injury.
Hope my answer is helpful.
