What Causes Breast Soreness Along With Sinus Infection?

Posted on Thu, 5 Feb 2015
Question: I've had blood work in October or November( routine) and it revealed I'm in beginning stages of menopause( hot flashes, weight gain, memory loss, headaches over the past year especially, maybe 2 years....). I'm 46 years old, healthy. Blood work also indicated hypothyroid, but levels weren't high enough to warrant treatment. At this appointment I hadn't been feeling well( fatigue, malaise following a cold) . Four weeks later I returned because I wasnt better and gradually getting worse. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and was treated with an antibiotic(2x/day x 2 weeks). After 2 days I was getting my energy back and would say I had a full recovery. Currently, I'm feeling crummy again, but I have not been sick. The L side of my nose is frequently clogged. My other symptoms are: headaches, left sided neck pain and restricted range of motion, fatigue and malaise. Also breast tenderness( which I though would have gone away when my period ended about 10 days ago). I do exercise regularly( aerobic/ dance mostly) , but the breast soreness doesn't feel muscular, it's the breast tissue itself. No discharge, no lumps, no other breast changes I'm aware of. My daughters have had the flu and another a bad cold; their symptoms were: fever, vomiting, diarrhea, aches/ pains all over, dizzy x 36 hours.as far as meds go, I do take citralopram( generic for Celexa, for anxiety, 10 mg 1x/ daily).

Any ideas? Possible sinus Infection again? Hypothyroid? But neither of those explain breast soreness( I don't think)

Brief Answer:
ENT EXAMINATION, REQUIRES ELTROXIN, LIFE STYLE MODIFICATIONS.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having breast soreness with sinus infection.

Answers and solutions for your queries.

1. Left sided nasal block with head-ache could be due to to deviated nasal septum or spur causing sinusitis- Needs ENT examination, if necessary CT scan of para nasal sinuses. Treatment can be started as per the findings.

2. Thyroid profile (your blood work -hypothyroid status)- Requires eltroxin, dosage and strength decided by your treating surgeon (do not rely on symptoms).

3. Breast soreness in elderly could be hormonal (your mammogram- normal), can be managed with life style modifications - Avoiding excess weight gain, Avoiding excess fat in diet, Avoiding smoking and alcohol intake, More of fresh fruits, vegetables with high vitamin content and Occasional use of analgesics.

In case of persistence, application of primrose oil can be tried, other drug like Danazol, Bromocriptine, Tamoxifen, Goserelin, Buserilin can be tried after consulting your gynecologist.

4. Neck pain could be due to cervical spondylitis (old x- Ray showing arthritic changes), wear cervical soft collar and avoid forceful neck movements.

5. There is a chance of pregnancy at 46 yrs of age. If you miss the period, check out with urine pregnancy test.
