What Causes Bowel Movements Immediately After Having Food?
My husband is puking after his meals lately. Sometimes he throw up while pooping. He is someone who usually have a bowel movement after every meal, that being said almost 3 or 4 times a day. He has the tendency to eat very fast too. He does have gastric difficulties too at times depending on what he have to eat and drink ENO for relief from the uncomfortable stuffy feeling.
What might be the problem here and what should i do about this?
Please advise.
Thank you

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com
This is Dr. Swarnava dattagupta answering your query.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Hurrying through meals is not a good thing to do. When we chew and swallow properly, the digestion becomes easy. And when someone eats very fast, proper digestion becomes difficult leading to reflux and vomiting. I believe the same is happening with your husband. Also, healthy diet is equally important. Diet rich in fat and junk is difficult to digest and may lead to the same.
Also he seams to have irritable bowel syndrome or IBS. Defecating after meals is a common symptom of IBS.
If such patient comes to me, I generally advise the following-
Diet modification- taking small frequent meals, chewing and swallowing food slowly and properly, avoiding fatty and junk food, alcohol and smoking, taking lots of fluid orally and diet rich in dietary fiber.
Brisk exercise regularly. This enhances metabolism.
Taking tablet domperidone twice daily for 5 days and then when required. This will take care of vomiting.
Taking tablet Normaxin-RT twice daily for a month. This will take care of indigestion and is very useful in symptoms of IBS.
Taking probiotics like lactobacillus XXXXXXX daily will normalise bowel movement too.
If symptoms persist even after use of these, an upper GI Endoscopy should be done to rule out other causes.
You can consult your treating or family doctor about it and for prescription.
Hope i have answered your question.
If you have any further questions i will be happy to help.
