Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for asking your query here.
It is a wise decision to ask health related query at this forum.

It is nice that you are taking care of your old sister. Dementia patients need constant care and supervision. As age advances their illness deteriorates. Few of the patients may develop neurological problems like epileptic fits also.

I would like to ask you few questions to clarify about her illness.
I would like to know whether she loses consciousness during these jerking periods?
Is there any episode of passing urine or stool in cloths during this jerky period?
Has this kind of jerks happened at any time during her sleep?
Did she had tongue bite ever during such an episode of jerking?.

If answer of any of the above questions is yes then it goes more towards epilepsy. In this condition an epileptic medicines like sodium divalproex/ carbamazepine etc may be started to control her illness.

Hope this answers your query.
I am happy to hep you and ready to answer any follow up query. I wish your sister a better health.
All the best.
