What Causes Blue Colored Cold Feet?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: Hi Doctor: I am concerned about my foot. The bottom of my right foot gets cold and turns blue/purple color. When I elevate it, color goes back to normal. I have foot drop from a craniotomy that I had 20 years ago. This only happens when I sit. Sometimes I do notice it when I get out of the shower? I can barely move my toes, but I can walk only with foot drop.

Brief Answer:
Problems with blood vessels

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

I understand your concern. Regarding to your symptoms and the fact that these symptoms are located on only one food, there is no general condition which could lead to this problem. Since you mentioned that your foot becomes cold and blue, there is a problem with your leg vessels. This could be a problem by itself, atherosclerosis or problems with your veins. But since you have drop foot, there could also be innervation problems which could lead to bad blood supply. My suggestion is to make a Doppler of your blood vessels to check your veins and arteries and if they are good, than visit a neurologist to see your leg innervation.

Until than keep your legs elevated whenever you can.

I hope this answer was helpful to you.
