Question: I am a female, 39 years old type 1 diabetic, blood sugars not always under total control, but reasonable. Just started getting blood in my stools as of this morning, I awoke in the middle of the night with extreme abdominal pain and had diarrhea. Didn't see at that time anything after done because it was dark, when getting up in the morning, using the bathroom I noticed blood after wiping and saw clumps of stool and blood in the toilet. Now I have been having pain off and on in my pelvic area for the past 6 months, some times it is a stabbing pain, and other times it is a rolling pain like something is moving in around a too small of area in my pelvis. My last me steal cycle was February 18. I have never missed my period before this unless I was pregnant, and I have had a tubal ligation when I was 24. Do you have any suggestions.

Brief Answer: Need evaluation.... Detailed Answer: Hi, At the outset, I don't think the current symptoms including pain is related to your periods or the previous tubal ligation. Bloody stool and diarrhea is commonly caused by an infection that generally resolves spontaneously. Fissure / hemorrhoid are the other common causes. Therefore it rarely bothers me and I do not push for tests unless the symptoms persist / recurs. However you described lower abdominal pain going on for the past 6 months. In the back ground of chronic lower abdominal pain, I would want to exclude intestinal and colon conditions like diverticulitis, polyps or inflammatory bowel conditions. Therefore instead of ignoring, I would refer you to a gastroenterologist who can perform a stool tests, colonoscopy and ultrasound abdomen. If the aforementioned tests are normal, I will not be worried. Hence in my opinion, the next step would be to visit a GP and ask for gastroenterologist reference; if not fix an appointment with the specialist directly. Hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need clarifications. Regards
