Question: I got sick with come type of upper respitory something at thanksgiving. At Christmas is spent the weekend at the hospital. I was disgnosed with blood clots, pneumonia, nodules in my thyroid and lung. I recently saw a cardiologist because I have also been having chest pains, and he said that he thought that they weren't blood clots but scars with the appearance of blood clots. Can you tell me what that might be so that I can research it?

Brief Answer:

A Chest CT-scan with intravenous contrast

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Usually, we evaluate the blood clots with chest CT-scan with contrast. If in this examination there are blood clots than no more doubts, if not, then nothing to worry about.

So, it would be better for you to check on the chest CT-scan. Whether it was done with contrast or not. A chest CT without contrast may not detect blood clots in the lungs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Blood clots are found only in the veins and/ arteries of the lungs, while lung scars are found in the lung tissues. They are completely two different things and can't be confounded with each other.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
