What Causes Bloating With Normal Abdominal Ultrasound?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Mar 2015
Question: Please review my last question too.
On friday I went to my doctor about the bloating. He thought I might have gallstones so sent me for an abdominal ultrasound . It was normal. I also cut out vitamins and lactose for this week.
however my symptoms changed and are worse. My kids did have a vommitting stomach virus over the weekend also.
So on sunday I noticed less gas but instead some heartburn and nausea. We went to a banquet that night and I ate alot and was fine. Monday I was ok but had hesrtburn when I ran..... that used to happen when I was pregnant but usually not any more.
Tuesday was awful . Iwoke up with terrible heartburn. Took tums then zantac. Later in the day I threw up a small amount. I was also very tired so I assumed I had the virus. Wednesday I felt better in the am. We were out all morning and I was hungry so I had a hamburger and diet coke. I felt like it just sat there and I couldnt digest it. I went running at night and my husband came to get me because I got nauseated. I started feeling heartburn at night so I took a zantac. This morning I still feel full with a touch of nausea.. my stomach feels tight when standing upright.
Any insights? please review my last question too as it might help to diagnose. This cannot be all anxiety. Also I did get a rx for zoloft but am afraid to take it just yet. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Stomach flu,need time to recuperate...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

Taking into account your medical history and your children history of stomach virus, your symptoms are indicative for stomach virus.

As long as nothing was found in abdominal ultrasound, then, everything seems to be related to stomach flu.

Eating out has aggravated your symptoms because your GI mucosa is not completely healed. You need more time for recovery.

For the moment, I advise to :
- continue taking Zantac and antacids
- avoid foods that would aggravate heartburn like oily/chilly/spicy foods
- avoid coffee/alcohol
- increase water intake with OTC ORS to recuperate the lost electrolytes
- take probiotics to normalize intestinal flora
- have light meals like soups, yogurt, etc.

Hope it was of help!
Wish fast recovery!
