Posted on Tue, 15 Jul 2014
Question: On 19th XXXXXXX some blisters appeared on the right chin, cheek. Along with that a kind of (sqeezing like) severe head ache and ear pain (inside the ear and at bone below the ear) also came. All the blisters, head ache, ear pain is only on the right hand side. I consulted Dermatologist and she said it is related to chicken pox and as it got affected to nerve I am getting that head ache and ear pain. She prescribed the below for 5 days. 1) Fodic ointment (to apply in the morning and night). 2) Famciclovir tablets 250 mg (3 tabs per day). 3) Methylprednisolone tablets 4mg (1 in morning). 4) Diclofenac sodium & Serratiopeptidase tablets (1 in afternoon) 5) Hydroxyzine hydrochloride 25 mg (1 in night). Now after 5 days the blisters got cured but headache and ear pain still remained. Today I revisited her and she suggested the below tablets for 15 more days. All the above mentioned 3),4),5) tablets with the same schedule 1 per day and Methylcobalamin with Gabapentin tablets (1 in the morning). Please let me know what is my problem and am I taking the right medicine.

Brief Answer:
You are on correct treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and treatment received so far.

I would like to reassure you that you are on correct treatment.

Your diagnosis is herpes zoster- a viral infection affecting skin, caused by varicella zoster virus. In some cases, the virus also affects the underlying nerves giving rise to pain and burning in the affected area. This condition is called as post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN).

You would get better with treatment.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
