What Causes Anal Fissure?

Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: Hi,
1 and half year ago,I was diagnosed with anal fissure. Doc has prescribed me some topical steroid cream(anovate) and i have used it for about 8months.My fissure was healed but i was left with constant pain, itching and pricking sensation around the anus while walking. I was not able to walk normally and everytime i walk for around 5mins,i am developing pricking ,itching and burning sensation around the anus. i dont have any fissure now but my bowel movements are painful.I have even developed stretch marks around the anus.Since its a steroid cream,my doctor advised that it will take some time to recover but i am really scared and dont knw what to do... My main point of concern is whether the skin will recover to normal and if so what is the duration of the recovery??.i am not able to walk even 5 min? kindly suggest me what to do?
stopped using the steroid cream 1year ago and using only coconut oil...But the itching and stinging still persists...Since its a steroid cream, is there any possibility of skin thinning and if so how long it will take to recover?

Thanks for the answer...

I am not constipated and I don't have any blood in stool...

It all started when i have used anovate cream for anal fissure treatment.I have used the cream for almost 8months(not knowing its a steroid) and feeling itching and pricking from the moment i stopped using it.. I got stretch marks around the perianal area but they are not causing me any symptoms

Surgeon has examined me and confirmed there is no fissure and everything is fine there..But i always feel pricking and soreness in anal and perianal area while walking and my symptoms are less when i sit idle compared to walking..

If my condition is pruritis ani, what are treatments available for it??

Are there any barrier creams available to reduce these symptoms while walking??

In case my skin has thinned,is there any possibility of regaining the thickness?? Are there any medicines available to recover my perianal skin??

Awaiting for your reply..Thanks in advance...

Brief Answer:
Lignocaine, fiber, liquid paraffin

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.

The steroid induced striae are irreversible.
To reduce the discomfort/pain during bowel movements, do the following -

1.Sitz bath
2. High fiber diet
3. Plenty of fluids
4. Topical lignocaine
5. Cremadiet Duo 0-0-2 scoops in 250 ml of water.

The discomfort in the perianal area while walking may be relieved by applying emollients/liquid paraffin.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.
