default
Posted on Fri, 24 Jun 2016
Question: Unexplained weight loss. I have been in excellent health. March 23 had a knee replacement. No complications. Problem started during rehab. 30 pound drop in weight. Can't regain any.
Hydrocodone used for pain control. Shifted over to tramadol. Use now down to a few a day. GP started me on significant increase in thyroid month ago. Minimum improvement.

Thyroid low. Increased

Brief Answer:
Thyroid medications might be responsible for this!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

May I kindly suggest that you stay your weight and height to me for computation of your BMI, what is used to assess whether your weight is appropriate or not. Low thyroid causes increased weight gain and maybe the drop is as a result of this ill state being addressed and not a disease condition in itself. In rare cases, this might be caused by excess treatment and this would be evident by other symptoms such as sweating, feeling hot, hyperactive, diarrhea, rapid heart beat, etc. If you really don’t have any of these, then there is no major worry about over medication. If there has been a measured TSH, report the reading to me.

For now, provide responses to the above questions and we will continue from there. Until next, I wish you well.
