Posted on Mon, 9 Jan 2017
Question: I'm 51 almost 52. Started menopause about 2 yrs. ago. The last 6 mo. I haven't had a period until 4 days ago and it came with a sudden down pour. So bad I couldn't leave the bathroom for a couple hrs. Very dark and with a lot of clots some very large. It has slowed down a little. The pains were the worst I have ever experienced. On a scale of 1-10, 9. Now it has been a week and still very heavy. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
It is not normal. It is abnormal uterine bleeding AUB

Detailed Answer:
Hi
GREETINGS
Since you never had periods for 6 months , this severe bleeding has to be evaluated. First of all we need to do an ultrasound scan to find out endometrial thickness and any other abnormalities like polyps or fibroids .
If nothing is detected an endometrial sampling may be required.Hence I suggest you to consult a gynaecologist Hope my answer helps you.
