What Causes Abdominal Pain And Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome During Infertility Treatment?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: Hi,
Im 28 years old. Trying to conceive for last 3 years. Doctors diagnosed as Unexplained fertility.
This month we did IVF. Last Monday (Sep-11) I had egg retrieval. They retrieved 14 follicles (6 fertilized, 2 transferred, 4 freeze). After egg retrieval, I got severe abdominal pain. Immediately I went hospital, doctor did scan and said its Ovarian hyperstimulation Syndrome because my ovaries are polycystic. They injected drips like pain killer, protein(Hermin) and PlasmaGlob (Human Intravenous Immunoglobulin). I recovered completely after that.
1. Last monday (Sep-14) I had egg transfer, yesterday and today again I suffered with lower abdominal pain(around ovaries). Doctor suggested me to take "Duoluton-L" and they said the pain due to hyperstimulation ovaries. Is it safe to take this tablet at this time? Because I read it is similar to contraceptive pills. Im 9 day past ovulation. Next monday I have beta-hcg test. Please clarify is it safe to take this tablet at this time?
2. Due to progesterone injection, I suffered from rashes. They stopped from 3rd day, but still Im getting rashes after taking Cetrizine. Please clarify why its occurring again and again?

Brief Answer:
Need few more details please.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Please clarify a few doubts that I have, after reading your query.
You mentioned egg retrieval last Monday, and then you said you had egg transfer also last Monday ( although you have typed different dates ).
So please correct any mistake that you might have made in mentioning dates.
Also, from what I understand, you had egg retrieval and then you had hyperstimulation, and then after 3 days, you were alright and so they went ahead with egg transfer.
Am I right ?
SO you should have had egg retrieval on Friday, not last Monday ????
Please let me know the complete list of medications that you are taking, so I can tell you what is likely to be causing the rash.
Since when has Duoloton L been prescribed to you ?
IS it only after you mentioned that you are having pain around ovaries ?
Can you upload the prescription please ?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
Explained.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the updates.
You are taking quite a long list of medications, so the itching might be caused by any of them.
It is likely to be due to gestofit, so since it is diminishing, wait a while, it might stop.
You cannot stop any of the drugs right now, so you have to take the avil / cetirizine and continue it.
Regarding Duoloton , it is being given to reduce risk of flare of hyperstimulation.
Yes, it is safe to take it .
There are no reliable symptoms of a successful result, only a positive B HCG test.
SO stay positive, relax and hope for the best.
I will pray for you.
