What Causes A Lump On The Arm After A Fall?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Mar 2017
Question: About three weeks ago I was running with the dog on a leash and tripped and fell in the street hard on my right side and underarm towards the back because of the outstretched arm. I had very painful bruising but (without visible bruises) and the x ray showed nothing special. Strangely about two weeks later and a week ago the whole of my right side where I fell went blue black with enormous bruises all down my right side from under arm almost to waist and right round towards my chest and back. after a week most of the bruising cleared as did most of the pain although I still have a little when I move my arm but now I have a small mass / soft lump under the skin on my right shoulder blade and towards my right side about the size of a the palm of a hand almost liquid in feel . What is it?

its now been 25 mins since this question was posted - I XXXXXXX an answer soon please

Brief Answer:
Hematoma seems most probable.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

The soft lump you have noticed is most likely a hematoma (blood collection in soft tissues). If its large enough, wont disappear as the rest of bruising. Moreover it may become infected.
I suggest you to have soft tissues ultrasound and the hematoma drainage.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
