What Casues Intermenstrual Bleeding?

Question: Hi, I just finished my period 10 days ago. I went to the washroom and when I wiped, it looked like I was on my period (heavy flow) but stopped an hour later. Then the next day I had the same random bleeding but it's lasting longer and it's red and a darker red. I have no pain or discomfort. I don't use birth control or protection with my husband. Is this a early sign of a miscarriage or is it something to do with my hypothyroidism?

It is unlikely to be a sign of miscarriage because you just had your period 10 days ago but it wont hurt to get an over-the-counter urine pregnancy test done.

Hypothyroidism can cause irregular menstrual cycles when the dose is not right. The best way to know if the dose is appropriate is to have a blood test for TSH and free T4. Fasting is not necessary for this test and it can be done at any time of day or night.

If the TSH is between 0.4 to 3.5 it is considered well controlled. The irregular bleeding then cannot be ascribed to the hypothyroidism and you may have to consult your gynecologist to see what else is going on
