What Are The Symptoms Of West Nile Viral Infection?

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Dec 2016
Question: What are the symptoms of west nile? My husband and I have had a viral problem forthe past 2 weeks and the indoor cat also had a fever of unknown origin. Symptoms include low grade fever off and on, and mild headache, some muscle pain. We do have positive west nile mosquitoes in our county and live on a horse farm. Should we be speaking with our physician about this? Feel kinda silly.

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms seem common viral infection;explained below...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Your case:
- 68 years old female
- symptoms: low grade fever off and on; mild headache; muscle pain;
- medications tried: ibuprofen for fever and muscle aches
- west nile mosquitoes in your country

Most of the infected patients do not develop symptoms. Sometimes, symptoms of West Nile virus include: headache, joint pains, body aches, rash, vomiting, diarrhea. They will completely recover but sometimes, weakness will persist for weeks or months.

In such cases, symptomatic treatment is required.

In severe cases, hospitalization is needed for a more specific treatment.

Yours are suggestive for a common viral infection. As the fever and other symptoms have persisted for 2 weeks, I advise to consult with your primary physician and run further blood tests to rule out western nile virus.

Wish fast recovery!
