Brief Answer:
Surgery is the single way to go...No drugs available!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this diagnosis and all the inconveniences this has caused you. Treatment for esophageal diverticula is essentially surgical. Which f the procedures would be used depends on the surgeon and a comprehensive evaluation of your disease condition. There are no medications that can help with this. Given your age, they would have to weigh the benefits and risk accordingly before being able to arrive at a final decision.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Hello,
I realize surgery is the only option. I was wanting an outline of the various techniques and what risks are involved.

That was not a sufficient answer in my opinion. I was looking for a more detailed explanation then that. Please elaborate

thank you

Okay..The various option are discussed below!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks for this follow up.

The possible procedures are as follow. Grossly, it can be through and endoscopic process or through a more invasive surgical approach. We may want to excise the diverticula or turn it upside down and attached in the oesophagus or create a communication between it and the esophageal lumen.

Diverticulopexy is used to remove larger diverticula. This involves either turning the diverticular sac upside down and suspending it by suturing it to the esophageal wall, or performing a complete excision of the diverticular sac.

Diverticulectomy and Heller Myotomy This is the more invasive approach but has the advantage of giving the surgeon the option to reinforce the esophageal wall and prevent recurrences.

Endoscopic diverticulotomy: Here a communication is created between the diverticulum and the esophagus lumen allowing food to drain freely into the lumen if it finds its way into the diverticula sac.

The main risk involve here are recurrence and risk of perforation. Risk of the procedure itself is minimal and complications not common.

I hope this addresses your query fully. If there is some specific information you would have loved to have, ask me the question directly but it is difficult explaining different approaches with all the medical jargons to a non medic. Maybe picture would have helped if we were in the office.

I wish you well.
