What Causes Bouts Of Severe Vomiting While Having Influenza?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Nov 2016
Question: I have had allergy attacks since my early 30's that cause me to shiver and feel really cold then breaks in to sweats upon running its cycle. They were very debilitating and were like a few hours of severe flu. As I've aged (early 50's now), the frequency of such attacks have dropped tremendously. (Maybe one every other year.) Last Tuesday I had such an attack and it broke late in the night with hot flashes and sweating. Did not feel well all week and then had very minor fever and sweats a couple of more times since then - the last time being last night. I had surgery (Heler Myotomy) for Achalasia two years ago and my esophagus seems to be quite sore also. When something does seem to lodge in there without being able to swallow, it generally make me sick to the point of vomiting. Last Tuesday before the allergy attack I mentioned above, I had such a bout with my esophagus which lead to vomiting and not feeling well. Since the allergies have never persisted this long, my lower esophagus still being aggravated, I'm trying to determine if there is a connection. Thanks so much. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Allergic reactions and esophageal symptoms are not related to one another

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir

I can certainly understand your concern.

There is no direct correlation between the allergic reactions and bout of vomiting secondary to the esophageal disorder.

Since you had Heller's Myotomy 2 years ago and still have symptoms of aggravation, it's important to reassess the condition via an esophageal Endoscopy.

Further management if any (need for surgical intervention) is based on the test results.

Post your further questions if any.

Thank you.
