What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Herpes Infection?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: My boyfriend has been HSV2+ for 30 years, has not had an outbreak in some 20 years, & is on suppresent therapy. I touched his penis with the back of my hand the other day during a sexual encounter, & two days later, that hsnd itched a bit & felt chapped, mores than the other (I've also been washing my hands more than I probably need to.). When I went to apply hand cream, it instantly became inflamed like contact dermatitis. I washed off & applied unscented, natural hand cream, & it went back to normal (though it's still drier than the other) within minutes. If I have contracted HSV, will this hand turn to blisters? It's been two days & nights since the occurrence. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Hand symptoms seem to be due to allergy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

HSV 2 is almost always sexually transmitted. It is transmitted more frequently when there is active disease. It is rarely transmitted to hand by genital contact when there are cuts on the hand. So the itching and chapped skin on the hand that you are having is most likely some sort of allergy. If at all it is herpes ( which is very unlikely) you will see few blisters within a week. I do not feel it is herpes.

AS regards the burning on either side of clitoris is probably due to the cut that you have. Herpes also starts as burning. If it is herpes, you will see small blisters in the genital area in a week's time which break open to form ulcers.

If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

I failed to mention that he performed oral on me & our genitsls may have brushed. That night, I felt like I had a fever, stomach upset & headache. Then had cut swabbed when I first noticed it a day later & swabbed for yeast as there was quite a bitbofvyellie discharge, which ninjas noticed immediately after sex?! That night stabbing pain, now sore & tender on each side of top of clitoris & intense icy hot burning top of vulva. I also had blood drawn for baseline. I am so scared. Will I be ok? Should I go back to clinic tomorrow with burning, or wait until visible blisters or swab. I've never experienced such intense burning; it's bad. If my symptoms appeared to start so early, & I'm 5 days in, how many more days before a break? Thank you so much for addressing my pressing concerns.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
You will be fine. Don't be worried.
The herpes blisters appear in 5-9 days time after the sexual intercourse. Apply ice packs to the vulval area to reduce burning.

The fever and the stomach upset that you suffered on that night are not due to herpes.

If you have further concerns do write to me.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama
