Brief Answer:
Amlong 5 causes dilatation of the blood vessels

Detailed Answer:
Hello welcome to HCM.
I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Amlong 5 contains tab. Amlodipine 5 mg which is the drug of choice for blood pressure particularly at older age. As such its mechanism of action is bit difficult to understand for non medical person I am just giving a brief thought here - Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker which causes vessels to dilate and lower the blood pressure.

The target blood pressure in newer guidelines is less than 140 /90 mmhg for any age, unless you have Diabetes. So your blood pressure seems to be controlled at present.

However in your medical history you have written that you have stopped olmesartan and atenolol tabs and started amlodipine. Ideally first you should decrease the dosage of both medicines before stopping it completely. So ask your doctor about this. Otherwise amlodipine is a wonderful drug.

The main side effects of amlodipine is Edema feet, Which is more at higher dosage. Kindly be watchful regarding that. Other side effects are headache, constipation, giddiness etc.. Kindly inform your doctor if any of these occur on severe basis.

Any more information you need or any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you.
Have a nice day.
