Question: my brother used to eat slate pencils for 2-3 years, now he is not eating is their any side effects in future ? please let know to follow the check up process

Slate pencils are made from Shale rock and a few minerals like quartz and calcite are added to it--since he has stopped eating them, there is no cause for worry as these minerals do not remain in body for long.No need of any check up.
But eating slate pencils/mud/chalk etc are due to deficiency in the body of calcium and zinc.
Make sure he takes supplements of ionic calcium and zinc so that he does not develop the habit again.
But monitor calcium and vitamin D levels, because excess is also not good.
Also give him vitamin D so that calcium is absorbed better.
