She should take iron and multivitamin tablet. Also take tetanus injection. Better to consult gynecologist and start appropriate treatment. Ultrasound examination of abdomen is also needed for fetal well being.
Please hit thanks.

Can you prescribe a multivitamin with folic acid and iron tablet for 4 weeks pregnant. Also if any other tablet to be taken. The pregnency confirmation has been done only yesterday

Brief Answer:
Only folic acid supplements are needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Congratulations !

As your wife's pregnancy test is positive, she is going to need extra care now. She needs folic acid supplements like FOLVITE 5 mg daily to decrease the chances of neural tube defects in the baby. Right now any iron supplements or prenatal vitamins are not needed. These are started after 12 weeks pregnancy. She needs to consult a gynecologist and do some investigations like haemoglobin , blood grouping , blood sugar , VDRL , HIV and HbsAg , Thyroid function tests etc as these are the investigations done routinely in pregnancy.

Regarding the diet she can have egg, meat and milk but try to avoid spicy food and take less salt. Green leafy vegetables , fresh fruits , whole grains , pulses should be taken more often. Eat frequent but small meals. If she feels nausea her doctor will give doxylamine tablets.

Eight hrs sleep during night and 2 hrs during day time is required. Immunization with tetanus toxoid inj should be done with your doctor's advise. Regular follow ups like BP and Weight check ups are required.

She needs an early ultrasound scan to rule out ectopic gestation and to confirm pregnancy dating.
A combined tests and NT( USG ) done at 11 weeks along with quadruple markers at 14 weeks are also needed. These tests are done for fetal well being.

Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Started after 12 weeks pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
During pregnancy iron and calcium supplements are given along with DHA supplements. These are not started before 12 weeks of pregnancy and should not be started without consulting your gynecologist.
The supplements include iron supplements like Fefol Z, calcium supplements like Corcium - taken twice a day with milk and DHA supplements like Fol 123. Other multivitamin supplements and protein supplements may be added as per requirement according to the baby's growth and mother's nutritional status.

Brief Answer:
Viral infection or allergy likely.

Detailed Answer:
Common cold and throat infection (bacterial or viral) may be due to seasonal changes or contact with allergen and dust particles.

Safe antibiotic like Cephalexin, Combined Amoxicillin & Cloxacillin etc along with Anti-histamine drug like Levocetirizine can be given to treat throat infection and common cold. Kindly, procure a complete prescription from her DOCTOR.
She can take paracetamol after meals to combat fever.
In addition, she must maintain oral hygiene to avoid repeated infection. She can use HEXIDINE mouth wash regularly in addition to above and brush her teeth 3 to 4 times daily or after taking foods each time.

Some basic home remedies can improve her condition and prevent recurrence:

a) Drinking plenty of water or fruit juice to stay hydrated and keep throat moist.

b) Inhaling steam or use saline nasal spray to ease nasal congestion and drippy nose.

c) Staying away from household dust, pollens, powders, droplets, smoke, allergen substances etc.

d) Taking one teaspoon honey & tulsi juice in the morning or hot drink like milk at bed time is quite helpful.

e) Taking hot shower bath, sleep with an extra pillow under head and vitamin-C supplements are very much essential.
