What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy Through Anal Sex?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: Can she be pregnant by anal sex?

On 28 of XXXXXXX 2015, sunday, me and my girlfriend engaged on anal sex. I ejaculated inside her anus. We were VERY careful not let any semen drip or leak from her anus. I used some tissues that were close to the bed and cleaned her anus. Right after that, she took a bath.

Being scared she might have gotten pregnant since it was the 15th day of her cycle, i made her took the morning after pill 1 hour later of that anal sex (levonorgestrel 1,5mg).

Today, it was the expected day of her period, but she has not yet menstruated, although she complained about heavy cramping last night.

Am I worrying too much?! I feel like I am obsessed with this sometimes for nothing, because the pregnancy risk was not very high to begin with.

Thank you very much in advance.

Brief Answer:
no chance of pregnancy at all

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir, thanks for trusting health care magic.
There is nothing to worry as there is no risk of pregnancy because semen in sufficient quantity is needed inside vagina to cause pregnancy and as you did anal intercourse with proper wiping and bath even there are no chances of vaginal inoculation of semen.
And intake of emergency pill has further increased the safety taking care of the rarest possibility of vaginal contamination.
So nothing to worry about.
Take care

Hi, Doctor Manisha!

Thank you for your quick reply!

I ask you to be patient with me, since I have a few more questions about this.

Sadly, I am a bit of a paranoid person. So please, bear with me :)

Since I am very paranoid, I never stop surfing the internet, searching for some crazy possibility, and as you already know; the internet is filled with scary stories and myths. Making me even more scared! :(

Some stories of woman getting pregnant easily with a few drops of semen leaking and whatnot. :(

Furthermore, I have read somewhere that levonorgestrel 1,5mg don't work well with a bit overweight woman. My girlfriend for example, she is 1,74cm (5'8'') tall and she is 82 Kg (176 pounds). Will the medicine still work on her?

Thank you for your patience in advance!

Brief Answer:
No chance of pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
You are most welcome dear, ask as many questions as you want but at the end you should be relieved from your anxiety.
That will be the result which will give me great satisfaction.
Few drops of semen can definitely cause pregnancy but those few drops should be released inside the vagina and not on skin or anus.
Sperms are very sensitive to outside environment and don't thrive well outside vagina, also they are unable to traverse that much distance from anus to the uterus.
As regards dose of emergency pill, it has a very high dose 1.5 mg which definitely interferes with pregnancy.
Reports of preventive effect of pill are there even if 0.75 mg is taken but international standards have set 1.5 mg as recommended dose for emergency contraception.
So all in all nothing to worry and just relax.
In case you have any questions about it, please feel free to ask anytime, I will be glad to answer.

Thank you Dr, I am feeling a bit more at ease with your replies.

Her period has not started yet and she is mostly regulated with her periods, can the plan B cause lateness on her period? If the plan B can cause her period to be late, how long can she be late because of it?

And also, one more question, all those stories on the internet that a woman can get pregnant, without vaginal intercourse, but from a man ejaculating on her thigh or vulva are plain myths/scare tatics? Because I have read them from more than 1 source. Hence why I am anxious.

Thank you for your help Dr!

Brief Answer:
Delay in periods because of pill

Detailed Answer:
Welcome dear.
No the stories you have read are correct but that happens when after ejaculation some people contaminate their fingers with semen and do fingering of vagina and thus deposit sperms right at the place they are needed to cause pregnancy.
Because as i told you deposition of sperms inside vagina is the baseline requirement for pregnancy because they cannot swim up and reach the vagina after released on skin or anus.
Yes emergency pill can definitely delay periods and commonly does so for about 2 days to 2 weeks.
Pill has high concentration of progesterone and thus can very well result in delayed period so nothing to worry abot that as it is not a missed period because of pregnancy.
I hope this has further relieved your anxiety.

Can you guarantee me that? Although I am more at ease, some thoughts still cross my mind, and I am still a bit worried. :(

Does the hard cramping she had at Wednesday night mean anything? Like her period is coming soon, or something?

Does she need to have a pregnancy test or something after a week? Or that would unecessary?

Thank you very much Dr, for helping me be more calm!

Brief Answer:
No risk

Detailed Answer:
See I can guarantee you that there can be no pregnancy if you gurantee me that there was no contamination of vagina by your seminal fluid.
Because as I told you sperms cannot crawl inside vagina from outside skin or anus.
So practically there is no need to do pregnancy test but if at all you want to be double sure than you can do a pregnancy test after after 1 week from now.
That cramping she had was all due to the effect of the emergency pill.
She will get her periods in some time and all you can do right now is to wait for her periods.
Just relax and don't worry, you both are safe.
