What Are The Chances Of Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma And Hernia Recurring?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Sep 2014
Question: I had a Partial Haepectatomy for hilar cholangiocarcinoma in 2012 and 2013 and thereafter ilestomy and hernia and thereafter routine SCAN - US being done - reports attached. Last week I was advised to go for Triphasic PET scan by a doctor while and another doctir said it is not really required. What are the possibilities that this could recur ?? I was told that normally it would recur if it has to withing 6-9 months and it is rare to recur after 2 years. My question is do I need to go for PET SCAN and possibility of it recurring ??

Brief Answer:
It can be avoided but follow protocol of Oncologis

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

PET Scan would normally not be required until there are any symptoms or complaints suggestive of spread. The reports seem normal. You could avoid the PET CT. But different Onco Centres have different regimes so I would advice that you follow the protocol that you plan to continue your therapy from.

As for recurrence it is definitely more common in initial couple of years but its better to keep yourself in follow up so that if you have a problem in future it can be detected early and managed accordingly.

Do let me know if you have any clarifications. Take care.
