What Are The Chances Of HSPV 2 Infection When Suffering From HSPV1 Infection?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: I recently had unprotected sex with a girl who failed to tell me until after that she had herpes several years ago. She stated it hasn't acted up in years and that her doctor no longer required her to be on medication for it. I always test positive on my std test for for hspv1 the common form related to cold sores etc. Do i need to be worried that I might get hspv2 from her in the genital area or what do i need to do?

Brief Answer:
Please get tested for Herpes 2 after few weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in details.
There is a possibility that you might have recently got infected during unprotected sex. The chances are lesser if your partner was asymptomatic and her virus levels were low. It is best if you can get tested for Herpes 2 antibodies after few weeks. This will tell if you got the infection or not.

As you already have Herpes 1, you should yourself also be careful about transmitting your infection to your partners. For this reason its always better to have sex with condoms and besides there are many other infections that can be transmitted to and from partners.

Hope your query is answered.

I normally do follow safe sex with condoms as this started out that way but ended up without a condom as it was after a night of some wine. As for having tested positive for herpes 1 the type related to cold sores etc. I wanted to understand better what type of precautions I should be taking? Can any of this be spread by kissing?

Brief Answer:
Use condoms and avoid sex with unknown partners, kissing transmits Herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Oral herpes can be transmitted to the genitals, and even the opposite is possible. Therefore the best precautions will be to have the lease number of faithful sex partners and use condoms during sex. Since Herpes 1 and 2 can be transmitted by oral or vaginal sex, no form of sex is safe as far as Herpes is concerned. Herpes is usually passed from person to person by kissing. HSV 1 and 2 can also spread from the mouth to the genitals during oral sex (fellatio, cunnilingus, analingus).

Hope your query is answered.
