Question: Dr. Thank you for answering my question about hsv1 testing. Now that I am diagnosed positive: I am married and have two children. I am very worried that I do not transmit it to them. Also, How can I make sure it is not transmitted to my wife? If I plan to have another child, how can I make sure it does not transmit to the newborn. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
The best way to confirm your wife status is to get her tested for HSV1.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Samneshad,

Welcome to HCM.

HSV 1 is very commonly occurring infection and it is usually associated with lesions around the mouth and oral cavity. The best way to confirm about your wife status is to get her tested for HSV 1 antibodies.

The chances of transmission of infection are more because both of you had been together since long period of time. If she comes positive than both of you have to take anti-viral medicines after consulting to some dermatologist.

Always use condom while having sex which will also help you to reduce the risk of transmission if your wife is tested negative. Don't get so worried or tensed as the possibility to transmit infection to new born is already very less.

Thank You
