default
Posted on Thu, 1 Dec 2016
Question: I was on zoloft 200 mg and welbutrin 300 mg for a long time. I went off about 4 months ago and some things happened in my life and started feeling bad again. Im waiting to see a pscyhiatrist but thats not until next week. I get a lot of unwanted thoughts which scares me. My MD put me on buspar but should I be on something else (maybe for depression).

Brief Answer:
I do not think buspar is first choice

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all before making any prescription the golden rule of checking for earlier prescription should be done. As I can see you responded well to zoloft in past the first choice should be zoloft when you have anxiety or depressive symptoms. I understand that buspar is good choice for anxiety but it does not help in depression.
Considering the presence of stressor and experience of feeling bad, fearfulness clearly indicates that antidepressant is better choice over buspar as antidepressant help in both anxiety as well as depression.

In current situation there is no place for alcohol abuse and it should be stopped all together without any delay. At the same time it is important to follow the basic principles of stress management. I hope you are aware what I mean by basic principles of stress management. In case you need for further help I can advice you accordingly.

I hope this helps you.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Can i take zoloft with the buspar? I wanted to start the zoloft at 25 mg because the side effects are more manageable. What do you think?

What about starting off on zoloft and welbutrin again? Im waiting to hear from the doctor

Brief Answer:
25 is initial dose is rule

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Regarding the dose of zoloft it is started with 25 mg and than increased slowly to 100 mg or higher as per need. Most patients respond at 100 mg or above but few of the patients may respond at less than 100 mg dose.

There is no serious interaction between buspar and zoloft and so can be taken together. It is important to mention that there is no point in using both medications in most cases and an attempt should be made to discontinue one. In your case the discontinuation should be done with buspar.

I must acknowledge that the zoloft as well as buspar are prescription only medications and should be used in proper guidance of your doctor.

I hope this assists you further.
Thanks a and regards.

Brief Answer:
I think this can be done

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

Since during last episode two antidepressants needed to show response this can be done again without any fear. In addition zoloft and welbutrin are compatible to each other in regard to sexual side e effect of zoloft which are prevented by use of wellbutrin.

I hope this clarifies further.
Thanks and regards.
