Posted on Sat, 19 Nov 2016
Question: I took Lexapro for over 10 years. Since Lexapro wasn't helping with my anxiety he switched me over to 10 mg Trintellix. For over a week now I have never been so depressed , anxious, and scared of everything. Is this a normal side effect.

Brief Answer:
No, They are not common side effects of vortivoxetine

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Increased anxiety and restless are commonly observed during first week of treatment with trintellix but they rarely stay for 10 days. As per my experience the restless and anxiety comes down on fourth or fifth day of treatment.

Feeling scared of everything and feeling depressed are not common side effects with trintellix. In fact the trintellix helps in scary feeling, fearfulness and depression but do not cause them.

In my view the feeling anxious, depressed or scared of everything could be withdrawal symptoms of earlier medication. Fortunately withdrawal symptoms do not last four longer time and it is possible that by the end of the next week you will feel better.

I hope this helps you.

Brief Answer:
Withdrawal side effects for two to four weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Withdrawal side effects of lexapro as well as zoloft last for almost two weeks and in some cases it may prolong for four weeks.

As I stated above there is good possibility of feeling better over the end of next week or even earlier.

I hope this clarifies further.
Thnaks and regards.

Brief Answer:
The withdrawal side effects of lexapro are different for every individual

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Although the discontinuation effects are different for every individual but I see the following in my clinical practice

Restless
Bad dreams
Insomnia
Hypersomnia
irritability
Feeling at edge
mood swings
Dizziness
Headache
Nausea and vomiting
Loose motions
Flu like symptoms and many others

There is no such thing which occurs after 10 years or so as I see withdrawal effects as early as after one month of Lexapro use although the chances as well as intensity becomes more over prolonged use.

I hope this assists you further.
Thanks and regards
