Hello, and thanks very much for your question.

When faced with a son who has a sense of entitlement and who accuses you of emotional abuse regularly, there are a couple strategies I tell my clients to use.

First, don't back down. If you have an issue with you son in the present, remind him that the past has very little to do with it. Past emotional abuse, even if it was real (which it was probably not), should not affect the present moment and the present conflict. Focus on the present.

Second, sometimes it is best to avoid the conflict and have a proxy work for you. Maybe your wife or another family member who the son does not have as much as a grievance with. Sometimes using a proxy with your same goals but whom the son trusts is a useful strategy.
