Posted on Sat, 7 Jan 2017
Question: We are married couple of 1 year. During this time we didn't planned to have baby. But we were together and used the withdrawl method as preventive measure. Her last period was on 30th Sep 2016 and her period was supposed to be 1st Nov but it got delayed. From 22nd Nov we had the proper sex to have baby and continued the same.
During this time since her period was already delayed and every week we used to check for pregnancy using home test kit but it was negative. We even visited the hospital and done the UPT test but it was negative on 3rd Dec. Doctor prescribed the tablet MEPRATE FOR 5 DAYS twice daily to have the periods and we had a review after 15days. But since after 15 days wait also no periods came, so finally on 17th Dec doctor did the second UPT test and the result came as positive.
Now i have the following question
1. How to calculate the number days of pregnancy. If we should start from the day of her last time periods or the day when we had the proper intercourse.
2. Since she had the MEPRATE(as we told its used to start the period) and she got pregnant so will there be any problem for the baby in future.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound scan required

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

Considering your situation this looks like delayed ovulation.

It is ideal to have early ultrasound scan to date a pregnancy accurately in such confusion.

Ultrasound scan will help in identifying and measuring the period of gestation accurately.

Hence I suggest you get early pregnancy ultrasound scan done to clear the confusion.

You cannot consider date of meprate tablet for pregnancy calculation.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

Thank you Doctor for your valuable suggestion to undergo for Ultrascan.

I wanted to elaborate my second question. Since she had take meprate tablet to get the period as suggested by the doctor, but she didn't got the period and she became pregnant so will the tablet affect the health/development of fetus in future. She had the tablet twice for 5 days. As I'm seeing mixed reaction of tablet usage during the pregnancy.
