Question: How quickly can you lower ALT levels? My last alt was 89.
I have abstained from alcohol for 16 days barring on day 7 drank wine. Would my alt be considerably lower?

Brief Answer:
tab.Udilive 300 mg and Syrup LIV-52 DS may help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM,

I have read your query and understand your concern about ALT level.

Your ALT or SGPT 89 level is slightly elevated but not too high and it does not have any clinical significance especially when if you have NO clinical symptoms.

Also, I would also want to emphasize that all these LFTs (SGPT or SGOT) are highly sensitive liver function tests as it might get easily raised even with oily or fatty meal or following few alcohol drinks.

But it is NOT dangerous and probably will come down to normal by itself within few days.

However, you may take tab.Udilive 300 mg twice daily which is a bile acid, a substance naturally produced by the body and does not have any side effects. It may help to lower the ALT value a bit faster.

Syrup LIV-52 DS 2TSF daily will also be helpful to reduce SGPT (LFT) level. It is a herbal preparation having hepato-protective property and may be beneficial for you.

Avoidance of alcohol will be surely advisable for next 3 or 4 weeks.

You can go for repeat testing of SGPT (ALT) after 3 or 4 weeks on fasting blood sample and most probably it will come within normal limits.

You can also continue with your current medications like fluoxetine and others.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra
