Suggest Treatment For White Spots On Tongue When Diagnosed With Pangastritis

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: Dear Doctor,

I have travelled last week in Thailand and have had endoscopy and clonoscopy. And the doctors confirmed that I do not have candida. There was one report that says I have only pangastritis.

When I came back to Doha, I noticed some white spots in my tongue. Few days passed and it is still there. I met a doctor this morning and told me that it is candida.

Do you think the infection is only in my throat or in my GI tract?

Do you think it is in my blood as well? Or do this can be checked in my blood?

Do you think these white spots are connected or related to the yeast found in my stool?

What laboratory tests shall I undergo to define it correctly? Is it blood culture or IgG, IgA, and IgM?

Appreciate your advise.

Best regards,

doctor

Brief Answer:
Confirm with culture of throat swab/stool for candida...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX
Nice to hear from you again.

To confirm candida infection, I advise to culture:
- stool
- mouth/throat swab

for candida infection. You can ask to do mycograme (sensitivity testing) to determine the right anti-fungal drug to use.

If you have already done these tests, you can send them to me for further evaluations.

You are also reporting to be diagnosed with "pangastritis", for which the doctor in Thailand might have advised some therapy. If the therapy consisted of antibiotics too, that could explain candida infection detected back to Doha.

Hope it helped!
