Suggest Treatment For Wheezing And Respiratory Distress While On Seroflo

Question: I have been using Seroflo 125 for a long time. It works well except that my voice cracks up and I love to sing (not a professional) and feel disappointed when I cannot get the right voice. Can you please suggest what I can do to avoid this or any other combination that works equally well but without this side effect?

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your situation. I would need to ask if you usually have wheezing or respiratory distress. If not , you need not continue it on regular basis. Rather, I would insist on an off-and-on use as and when required. Furthermore, you can take simple salbutamol or levosalbutamol inhalers (avilable in brands like levolin) as and when required. That should help in minimizing the side effects that you mention.

Dear Dr Saha,
Thank you for your suggestion. As you said I have respiratory problems like wheezing in bouts of one month and then I can manage without the steroid and only salbutamol. But then slowly it builds up and I ahve to use salbutamol upto 4 to 5 times a day . Ie when I turn to Seroflo 125 just once a day at night. That keeps it under control. But then I have this side effect of throat hoarsness . So I was only wondering if there is any substitute for Seroflo 125 which does not have this side effect. XXXXXXX

There is an alternative for seroflo but it is not an inhaler. You can try taking Tablet. Montair LC (monteleukast + levocetirizine) once daily during those occasions and it should give a similar action. Another alternative, Aerocort Inhaler (Beclomethasone + Levosalbutamol) can also be tried. Since these are prescription medicines be sure to discuss with your treating physician before use.
