Suggest Treatment For Vision Loss

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: I am inquiring regarding my mother. She had her left eye operated for Glaucoma few years back and was also operated later for cataract in the same eye. The left eye has no vision now and the right eye has only 5% left. I would like to know a good hospital or would appreciate an appointment with the eye specialist so that we can know if something can be done for her. She is only 45 yrs old and having no vision at this age is totally unacceptable. Please help me in helping my mother.

Brief Answer:
She is having advanced glaucoma.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

It seems from the history that your mother is diagnosed with glaucoma and she has been operated for cataract in left eye and unfortunately she is not having vision in left eye and in the right eye she has got only 5% of vision.
This indicates gluacomatous optic atrophy of left eye and advanced gluacoma in right eye.
Hence she requires treatment immediately to prevent complete loss of vision in right eye also.
The first approach is to get her intraocular pressure and visual fields checked.
To set a target intraocular pressure of less than 10 and use either antiglaucoma drugs or laser or surgery or combination of one or more methods to acheive target intraocular pressure and maintain it at this level to prevent further loss of vision.

Do mention any of the drugs she is taking and her most recent intraocular pressure and visual field report if you are having so that next plan of treatment can be done.
You need to consult glaucoma specialist for proper evaluation and treatment.
There are quiet few good hospitals in XXXXXXX like XXXXXXX XXXXXXX eye hospital, XXXXXXX Mahatmae eye hospital XXXXXXX and XXXXXXX XXXXXXX eye hospital in XXXXXXX .. and you can consult one of them depending on your convenience.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
