Brief Answer:
Depressive disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query. Your signs are pointing towards depression. I would be in a better position to guide you if you answer following questions:
1. Any major event in your life in past? someone's death, separation ,etc?
2. Is there history of loss of interest with diminished involvement in working activity?
3. As you have lost weight so is it because you don't like to eat anything?
4. Does a phase come when you become very much active?
5. Is there history of any chronic illness in your family like cancer, depression, hypertension, diabetes etc?
6. Do you have children? If yes then do you live with them or alone?
7. Any history of recent infection of any kind?

I will be looking forward for the answer to conclude the discussion in the best interest of yours.
Thank You

No major event; yes, I have lost interest in exercise, socializing, don't know which came first - losing weight or lack of interest in eating; no active phase; I had a sister with chronic depression and alcoholism who committed suicide; I have 3 children, a fifty two year old daughter who lives with me with her 13 year old son (my daughter doesn't work, is on medication for chronic depression) my grandson is wonderful - happy, active, loving-I have no history of recent infection - I understand that the way I feel is likely depression but I don't know why I'd feel dizzy/out-of-focus. Can that be part of depression?-

Brief Answer:
Major Depressive Disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank You for writing back. I have gone through your answers.

You are suffering from Major Depressive Disorder. You also have a strong family history of depression. All the symptoms that you are encountering including dizziness & unable to focus are because of it. My suggestion would be to consult a psychiatrist at the earliest because the medications for depression are not OTC mostly and you need prescription. Secondly, doctors keep a close followup for such patients to adjust the dose of medication accordingly. Treatment of depression includes a combination of medical, psychological, social & behavioral therapies. You will see huge change as soon as the medication are started.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
